will put her 112 Equibase speed figure on the line tomorrow in a stakes race at Santa Anita in which her six rivals have a speed figure of 108 or less.
Manitoba’s super horse, who turned 5 on Jan. 1, begins her racing career as a mare in the $100,000 La Canada Stakes, a 1 1/16-mile route on the dirt. It is the eighth race on a nine-race card that begins at 2:30 p.m. Winnipeg time.
She will face four fillies and two mares in the race and is the 5-2 morning-line favourite. All are Kentucky-breds except her, of course, and True Royalty
who has Florida breeding. Tyler Baze
will ride. He was owner/trainer Don Schnell’s
first choice after Escape Clause had a troubled trip with Ruben Fuentes
aboard for the Robert J. Frankel Stakes on Dec. 29.
Her entry in tomorrow’s stakes marks the first time she will be racing on the Santa Anita dirt track. Her previous start at Santa, in which she finished fourth, was on the turf. And her two California starts before that, in which she was first and third at Del Mar, were on the grass. Her 112 speed figure came in her last race despite an erratic trip.
IF SHE WINS, IT WILL BE CRAZY HOUR IN THE CLUBHOUSE!
