Wet track on Victoria Day Monday could mean more longshots

Jockey Chris Husbands scored his third hat trick in four days on Saturday night at ASD and apprentice Janine Smith topped the largest Superfecta ($5,106.80) of the weekend so far when she won the last race Saturday aboard Thomas Baines (11.90) for trainer Chad Torevell.
Trainer Jim Meyaard made a quick stop to win four of five starts on Friday and Saturday with some talented horses we’ll probably see later in stakes, Jennifer Reid won a pair, and Adolfo Morales started to roll with three more winners.
Meyaard’s four winners vaulted him into a tie atop the trainer standings with Gary Danelson with four winners apiece. After that it’s a log jam, with nine trainers tied for second with three winners and three trainers tied for third with two wins apiece.
Chris Husbands increased his lead in the jockey standings to 11-8 over Jennifer Reid, followed by Paul Nolan (6 wins), apprentice Tori Gandia (5), Adolfo Morales (4), Trevor Simpson (4) and apprentice Skyler Whiteshield (4).
The 15% Pick-4 was kicked off by longshots on both Friday and Saturday and paid accordingly. Tori Gandia won the first leg of the Pick-4 on Friday with Iwuz Indy Pool ($24.50) for trainer Emile Corbel and Paul Nolan rode Queen of Tahoe ($41.00) to victory in the first leg on Saturday. The Pick-4 paid $1,095.80 on Friday and $3,319.20 on Saturday.
The track will likely be wetter than usual on Victoria Day Monday, which could mean more longshots. Check out Ivan Bigg’s Secret’s Stage just inside the main entrance 30 minutes prior to post time and he’ll point out a few lucrative longshot angles for you.
