Q. How do I use the new My Stable system in HPIbet?

A. I’ve been waiting for over a year to explain this exciting new functionality that HPIbet launched this week. Here’s what you need to know to start tracking horses that you want to bet next time they race. In summary, My Stable is designed to provide custom alerts that notify you when your favourite horse, jockey, driver and/or trainer is racing next and then send you their results. You can customize which alerts you want to be notified for and you’ll be sent an email.

To get started, simply click on any horse’s name from the Race Entries section. Then, click on the bell icon next to the horse’s name (view image here). This will extend the screen below and provide you with the option to select which alerts you want to be notified about – entry, race and/or results (view image here). Once finished, you can simply close the window.

To view your current stable list, click on the MY HPIBET menu along the top of the window and select My Stable (view image here). You can toggle between horses, jockeys/drivers and trainers using the tabs in the middle of the screen. You should also confirm that the email address you’re using for HPIbet is current to ensure that you’ll receive the notifications being sent. Click on the Configure Email Delivery gear icon to verify your settings (view image here). This brings you to a page titled Site Preferences. Go down to the ALERT DELIVERY section and make sure that your email address is current and that you have turned the button along the right hand side to ON (view image here).

One more added feature is My Racing Alerts. This allows you stay informed about every large carryover pool. Just set the pool threshold that you want (for example, minimum $5,000) and HPIbet will alert you when your thresholds have been met or exceeded (view image here).

INSIDER FLASHBACK

Blind child prodigy

Nephew of horseplayer/art deal David Loch is honoured by the Vatican

Blind Ethan Loch at piano (Inset: Uncle David Loch)

David Loch is best known in Winnipeg as the art dealer who patriated the Winnie the Pooh “Honey Pot” painting to the city from an auction in England. And Insider readers should know him as the astute handicapper who had a “perfect” day playing Gulfstream last year, winning every pick-3, pick-4 and the Rainbow pick-6 for a total pickup of $50,000. And he won a $125,000 pick-6 pool at Santa Anita last fall, too.

Now know David as the uncle of a blind child prodigy, Ethan Loch, 12, a virtuoso pianist who was recently honoured by the Vatican, no less, for his exceptional talent and his inspiration to others.

“People were in tears,”
David told The Insider. David was in the audience when his nephew, from Edinburgh, Scotland, received the annual International Giuseppe Sciacca Award and played two songs on the piano to a standing ovation. You can watch the ceremony, young Ethan's touching acceptance speech and his artistry in two songs ON THIS VIDEO. (David can be seen on the extreme right in the video at 12:48 recording his nephew's performance on his smartphone.)

As you watch Ethan playing the well-known Clair de Lune, remember the boy has been blind since birth and obviously has never seen a sheet of music. No wonder tears were flowing and no wonder David is so proud of his nephew.

RACING THROUGH TIME with Bob

Did you know . . . that Speedy Zephyr, Overskate and Pool to Market only had one race apiece at Assiniboia Downs but all were track record setting performances? However, Pool to Market was the only non-Manitoba Derby horse to set a new 1 1/8-mile track record. Read more here.
