Rob’s ASD Picks and Wagering Strategies for August 23-24, 2013

by Rob

Week 1 of Bankroll Bob V.2 was a small success, $250 through the windows and a return of $278.15. I thought I had a shot to show a lot more profit but Pelee Island didn’t get up into the top two, Great Cause encountered serious traffic issues to finish sixth and the Pick-4 return was good but I missed some of my value opinions within it. Moving on to Week 2 this Saturday night’s card is a much trickier in my mind and I think horses can be found at value prices.

Race 1 is a wide open race for me. Rude Bobby, Justcallmetater, Cape Truth and Thomas Baines all want to do the same thing and that should not bode well for any of them. Smarty Fawcett takes a scary drop off the claim and Wicked Landlord is off form. This leaves Big Bad Barry as the closer dropping in close and in good form. Adolfo Morales is reunited with Big Bad Barry and the distance should not be a concern. I think some of the speed will hang around for a piece and will use Justcallmetater and Thomas Baines mainly in second.

$10 Win on #2

$4 Exactor 2/3,7

$2 Exactor 2/5,6

$2 Exactor 3,7/2

$1 Pick 3 2/1,3,6,7/4,5

Race 2 is a race with a few horses that intrigue me as value plays, such as Cimmaron Kid, who was running against much tougher horses at Northlands and Turf Paradise. Bears Home Run, Sommelier Smarty and Dance Chief would be odds on in here. This is not a deep race and Our Boy Ken should get pressure from Great Cause. Jess Z deserves a second look on the change of pace angle after showing wake up speed and he now should be able to sit just off the pace.

$5WP on #3

$0.20 Super 1,3/1,3,6,7/1,3,4,6,7,8/1,3,4,6,7,8

Race 3

Looks like a two horse race on paper between Taras Ruler, who should be loose speed, and Artic Fire who drops in. These horses are classier than their rivals and I think they should dominate, but they are not good bets to run 1-2 since one should kill the other off. Pass the race and root home the early Pick-3.

Race 4

Lots of early speed in this field with Prince Marc, Cockeyed Justice and Nathan’s Special. Seventeenmiledrive had a dream trip last time and now jumps way up in class. I have to go back to Vee Voom Rules and Going for a Few, who can close a bit of ground in this spot. Kicks off the Pick-4 and I would like to spread in here a bit at least.

$10 Quinella 5,6

$1 Triactor 5,6/1,3,7,8/5,6

$1 Pick 4 5,6/1,2,3,4,5,6,8/2/1,2,3,5

$1 Pick 4 1,2,3,5,6,7/2,3,5,8/2/3,5

Race 5 is a paceless race but Reba, the probable leader, isn’t good enough in my mind. Have to look for a stalker in here and that might be E Harner or Thee Hemi. Not sure about this race from a betting point of view but I will play a Pick-3 and try to get a price here.

2,3,4,8/2/1,2,3,5

Race 6 is 100% Yankee Candy’s race to lose and she looks like she should be a monster in that spot. Carolina Brew, the interesting invader from Northlands, does not compete on speed figures. Yankee Candy has beaten everyone else in this field except for Jilleah, who drops from Stakes Company. I have to go right back to Yankee Candy but I can’t bet her at 2.80 on the board.

Race 7 has four horses that stand out among the field and I will try to beat the most obvious in Kirkland Lake. He is always close but never seems to win. The claim of U R Burnin Daylite makes him interesting and Applicant is sitting on a win, so the race after Kirkland Lake is wide open.

$1 Triactor 3/1,2,4,5/1,2,4,5

$4 Exactor 3/1,2,4,5

$2 Exactor 1,2,4,5/3

$0.20 Super 1,2/1,2,4,5/3/ALL

$0.20 Super 1,2/1,2,4,5/ALL/3

The last race is wide open with lots of speed and it should set it up for some sort of closer. Possibly Rising Icon who will be at least a $10 horse. Other horses to look at are the obvious On Command, Poet and Sudden Bolt. With $23 dollars remaining in my budget I will just try to make a good hit on Rising Icon.

$1 Exactor Wheel 6/ALL

$1 Exactor Wheel ALL/6

$5 Win 6

That gets me to my daily budget of $250 and hopefully I can show profit again this week.
